If you have not taken a long trip by Amtrak  for a vacation, perhaps it is time to to give it some consideration. The national train network makes it possible to get around from most major cities. Getting there can be half the fun on some of the more scenic routes.

San Diego is one of the best-loved vacation destinations in the US.  It is easy to take a train to the historic train depot near downtown and then use public transit for getting around locally; you can even take the train up north to several Legoland hotels.  San Diego is spread out over a smaller geographical area than other parts of southern California, notably Orange County and Los Angeles. You can even get around to a lot of vacation attractions by walking if you enjoy that.

Maybe it’s your idea to spend some time on this vacation at a southern California theme park that offers thrill rides.  The two parks that come to mind when speaking of roller coasters are Six Flags Magic Mountain and Knott’s Berry Farm The SoCal Guru  notes that these two destinations have focused directly on roller coasters and thrill rides to differentiate themselves from Disneyland.

You won’t find any place with more edgy thrill rides and coasters than Six Flags Magic Mountain. Check out the SoCal Vacation Guru for more information about the park, as there’s lots more to do there besides roller coasters (for the rest of your group who may not be coaster fanatics).

Knott’s Berry Farm also has really focused on thrill rides, although they offer Camp Snoopy, Ghost Town and many other fun attractions and themed areas within the park. We have talked to employees who can confirm that several of the roller coasters at Knott’s will push you to the limit of comfort.

Of course Disneyland is the first park that comes to mind, with Dumbo, Mickey, Goofy and the others. If you’d like some good information about planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort, check out the SoCal Vacation Guru, which can fill you in on hotels near Disneyland and other places. Disney has no-doubt done the most effective job of bringing imaginary characters to life, much to the delight of us all.

Your next stop would be Universal Studios Hollywood and the many TV and movie stars such as Betty Boop, the Hulk, Batman and Spiderman, joined most recently by Homer Simpson and his wonderful family. Pick up some useful information and tips about Universal Studios and other southern California hotels from the SoCal Vacation Guru.

It doesn’t matter how you plan to spend your vacation, it is of great importance to find the right hotel.  If you are not a little bit careful, a major part of your vacation will be spent on the freeway driving to your destinations.  Who wants to waste precious vacation time on needless driving?
